Oak Ridge, Tennessee
– June 2, 2005. WESKEM LLC has announced it has
completed negotiations with Bechtel Jacobs Co. LLC for
modification of its waste disposition services contract
in Oak Ridge.
The contract, originally awarded to WESKEM in 2000
for support of legacy waste disposition and on-going
waste operations, has now been modified and extended to
be more consistent with BJC's closure contract.
"The contract now focuses more directly on the
reduction of storage facility square footage and
elimination of the last remaining volumes of legacy
waste," said John W. Krueger, president and CEO of
WESKEM.
Since contract inception, WESKEM has removed more
than 80 million pounds of hazardous, radioactive, and
mixed waste from the Oak Ridge Reservation on behalf of
BJC and the U.S. Department of Energy's environmental
cleanup program.
"They have done so while maintaining one of the best
safety records in the industry," a WESKEM press release
stated.
In the news release, Krueger said, "Our uniquely
experienced workforce makes WESKEM the subcontractor of
choice for achievement of difficult milestones, and that
is why BJC continues to invite us to partner with them.
"We are proud of our people and our performance in
Oak Ridge, and very pleased to have an opportunity to
continue to support BJC's challenging project."
