WESKEM was awarded a contract by
Bechtel Jacobs Company, LLC (BJC) to provide technical and waste
management services associated with the closure of the Resource
Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Permitted Waste Storage
Facility at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Oak Ridge
Reservation. This Facility was used for storage of RCRA, PCB,
low-level radioactive, and mixed waste generated from the DOE Oak
Ridge operations. All of these waste types were security classified. The closure activities provided by WESKEM staff included preliminary
facility assessments, facility decontamination, verification
sampling, and closure certification. All work was performed in
accordance with the Tennessee Department of Environment and
Conservation (TDEC) approved Closure Plan. All waste from the
facility was characterized, packaged and shipped to a RCRA permitted
storage facility or to a treatment/disposal facility for final
disposition. WESKEM staff managed the quality control activities,
pre-closure and post-closure inspection activities, waste
characterization, profiling, packaging, and shipment for final
disposition. Once the facility was emptied of all waste containers,
WESKEM provided the final walk down and visual inspections,
verification sampling and analysis, closure documentation, and
supplied the inspection records. The project was completed on
schedule and under budget. |
