Under contract to Bechtel Jacobs Company, LLC (BJC),
WESKEM provided the waste management expertise to package and ship
40 Size-4 Uranium Enrichment Converters to the Nevada Test Site (NTS)
for disposal. The converters weight approximately 10,000 pounds
each, and were used in the Department of Energy (DOE) K-25 uranium
enrichment facility at the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP) on
the Oak Ridge Reservation.
The WESKEM staff was responsible for
preparing and reviewing all work packages, job orders, security
plans, and transportation plans required for the project. WESKEM
staff also conducted UCN-2109 data package evaluation against the
approved master profile for NTS waste shipments, coordinated
resolution of waste characterization/waste stream data package
discrepancies as needed, and completed appropriate shipping
documentation to accomplish DOT-compliant over-the-road
transportation of converters to NTS. WESKEM staff also provided the
supervision and transportation guidance to accomplish the physical
loading, blocking, bracing, and load guidance in accordance with the
approved work package and support documents.
The project was
completed on time and within the project budget. |
