Under this contract WESKEM manages all radioactive,
RCRA hazardous, TSCA, industrial chemicals and newly generated
wastes at three operating sites in Oak Ridge, including ETTP,
Y-12, and ORNL. WESKEM is responsible for all aspects of the
waste management conduct of operations including characterization,
packaging, storage, processing, transportation, treatment and
disposal of waste. Since early FY 2000, WESKEM has shipped over
30 million kilograms of waste off-site in over 300 truck shipments
and 50 rail shipments from the three Oak Ridge sites. These shipments
have gone to eight commercial and government waste treatment
and disposal facilities throughout the country.
WESKEM developed and implemented the waste management procedures
for all three Oak Ridge sites, developed and manages the waste
tracking database system, developed and implemented the Integrated
Safety Management System (ISMS) program as it applies to waste
management and is co-permittee for 19 waste management TSD facilities
containing over 27,000 waste packages at the Oak Ridge sites.
Since assuming the waste management operations in Oak Ridge,
WESKEM has accumulated 1,467,605 labor hours while achieving
the following successful safety statistics: RII = 1.6, LWC-R
= 0.5, and LWC-A = 0.8. In 2003, WESKEM achieved a RII rate of
1.02 which ranked best for all subcontractors at five Bechtel
Jacobs Company (BJC) sites. During the period June of 2001 through
August 2002, WESKEM worked 427,237 labor hours without a recordable
accident or injury. This is directly attributable to applying
ISMS processes all aspects of work planning and implementation.
WESKEM played a major role in the BJC ISMS Program recertification
in 2003.
WESKEM's environmental program has been cited by Tennessee regulators
as a model program. WESKEM was instrumental in recent improvements
in the nuclear criticality safety program working in concert
with BJC. WESKEM provides all training for employees and subcontractors
who prepare, package, and transport radiological and hazardous
waste for offsite transportation and disposal under the DOE Oak
Ridge Operations EM Program. WESKEM also provides training in
a wide array of other disciplines. |
