WESKEM, LLC was responsible for characterizing, removing,
packaging and transporting for disposal over 39,000 tons of radioactively
contaminated scrap metal and miscellaneous materials from the
Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PGDP) in Paducah, KY. The scrap
materials were stored in several onsite scrap yards.
WESKEM mobilized for this project in 2003 by preparing the removal
action work plans, directing the readiness review process, delivering
all necessary equipment, setting up all temporary facilities,
establishing the required workforce on the job site, completing
specific training, and delivering all construction materials
required to start work and continue in accordance with the subcontract
schedule. WESKEM was furnishing all labor, equipment, materials,
supplies, facilities, and transportation to remove scrap from
the Paducah Site to an approved Department of Energy disposal
facility in Nevada or a commercially licensed facility in Utah.
The WESKEM Removal Action Work Plan provided a concise description
of the activities to be undertaken for scrap removal and disposal.
The Plan was reviewed and approved by DOE and state and federal
regulators.
WESKEM prepared and shipped over 2,357 tons of scrap for
disposal. |
